The Abalone artist Anna Halls is known for her equestrian art. She was previously known as Hall, but since the beginning of 2007 Anna has been using the full form of her name, Halls.
Why horses?
Anna finds the whole scale of human life in horses. Like human, the horse is very sociable and wants to be treated well. Unlike human, it does not slay and exploit its fellow creatures and does not systematically destroy other species and nature. The horse unveils its emotions and accepts human to be its leader. When the horse is lead by a wise human, it is his most precious companion. Many attributes embodying the admiring attitude of the human are associated with the horse. Freedom, strength, sensibility, trust and the want of closeness are features worth pursuing for all of us.
Paintings full of colour and movement
Of all techniques, Anna is best at home with oil painting. The splashy and vivid, on the other hand dreamlike layers of colour create an undertone for each horse she creates on the canvas. Sometimes it is difficult to keep up with the pace –sometimes the motion is completely soundless. Anna produces graphics and drawings as well.
The next exhibition takes place in Helsinki, in Galerie Oljemark 4.–29.3.2009. Anna’s work will be put on display at the Finnish Museum of Agriculture in Loimaa in summer 2010.
